Totes & Containers

Promotion/awards merchandise DC

Use of durable containers promotes efficient batch picking and transport of merchandise to a dedicated value-added services area for custom engraving and foil embossing

apid order handling is a priority at this facility, which promises quick turnaround of customized and non-customized items alike to hundreds of retail stores. Incoming orders arrive in cases and in full pallet loads and are staged at the dock. They are then transported to a combination storage/ picking area consisting of 5-level-high single deep pallet rack and deck shelving for oversized or odd-shaped items. Individual items and full cases are batch-picked from floor-level pallet locations directly to reusable containers and pallet jacks. Via pick ticket instructions, containers are either taken to the VAS area for embossing or engraving or directly to a packing station. Orders are processed directly out of containers in the VAS area. Customized items then travel to the packing station, where orders are consolidated and placed into shipping cartons for delivery.

  • Combination storage/picking area facilitates efficient use of space
  • Locating transport aisles within the storage/picking area perpendicular to the receiving dock, packing station, and VAS area facilitate streamlined handling of orders and reduce travel distances
  • A dedicated value-added services area allows for better control and gives management better visibility over inventory
  • Use of various size containers with interlocking footprints promotes efficiency
  • Use of collapsible containers allows for dense storage of empties in a convenient location within the DC
