Hanging apparel/flat goods DC

Versatile materials handling equipment and conveyor systems helps this facility turn orders around quickly and perform important valueadded services including ticketing, theft tagging, and hanger insertion

riven by customer service, valueadded services (VAS) play a key role at this distribution center for apparel, which fills orders daily for up to 100 retail stores. Incoming orders arrive in cases on pallets or on hangers. An extendible boom automatically loads incoming hanging goods onto trollies, which travel on a slick rail transport system to a three-level-high hanging garment storage area. Employees use rolling ladders to pick replenishment items for the forward garment picking area consisting of a two-level-high rail system. Orders are picked to trollies. WMS automatically prints VAS requirements on the pick ticket and routes orders to the VAS stations for ticketing or tagging. Orders are consolidated at a staging area near the shipping dock for delivery to retail stores.

  • Extendible boom that extends into trailers eliminates manual handling of incoming hanging goods
  • Three-level-high hanging rail system provides dense storage of replenishment inventory
  • Use of slick rail system provides for efficient transport of hanging garments
  • To improve picking productivity, SKUs are segregated in the forward picking area by activity level (previous, current, and coming season)
  • Value-added services workstations are designed with overhead rails to accommodate streamlined handling of rapid goods
